The original commercial hub of Brookline, Brookline Village was the first colonial settlement of importance in the Brookline area. Brookline Village served as a point of connection between Cambridge- nothing but a relatively small settlement where Harvard Square now stands- and Boston. Community activities largely centered around one Tavern, called the Punch Bowl Tavern, which was also a popular spot for soldiers to take a break during the revolution.
